Workshop Abstract

Voice/speech amplification: methodologies, benefits, IEP goals and current research.

Short Abstract

Voice-speech frequency amplification improves academic proficiency for students with language and learning disorders including ADD/ADHD, autism, central auditory processing disorders and articulation difficulties. Methodologies, benefits and IEP goals for students using Hearit auditory tools in the individual, small group, and classroom setting and results from 2002-2004 data collected from 35 amplified elementary school classrooms at Flagstaff USD will be presented.

Long Abstract

Voice-speech frequency amplification improves academic proficiency for students with language and learning disorders including ADD/ADHD, autism, central auditory processing disorders and articulation difficulties. Hearit phonologic amplification tools will be introduced in a combined Power Point/hands-on format. Questions and comments from attendees will be encouraged throughout the session. Each attendee will have the opportunity to utilize the Hearit Perfect to experience first-hand how the Hearit tools amplify specifically voice-speech frequencies between 250 and 6000 Hz to enhance phonologic awareness and speech recognition. The Hearit SE Broadcaster will be utilized by each presenter during the session to provide the attendees with the opportunity to understand how this tool can benefit all students in the inclusion setting or a self-contained classroom.

Methodologies, benefits and IEP goals for students using Hearit auditory tools in individual, small group, and classroom settings will be presented. Results from 2002-2004 data collected from 35 amplified elementary school classrooms at Flagstaff USD will be presented and improvement in the areas of auditory perception and classroom behaviors of the students will be discussed. Attendees will learn how the FUSD received an Excess Cost Grant to purchase amplification equipment for 35 regular education classrooms, 10 resource classrooms and 13 speech therapists.

Learning Outcomes

1) Each attendee will learn about current applications for individual, small group, and classroom training with Hearit Auditory Tools and how Hearit technology can enhance learning outcomes to facilitate the attainment of IEP goals and short term objectives.

2) Each attendee will learn about current research that supports Hearit amplification and learn about results from actual case studies of Instructors/Clinicians working with children with articulation difficulties, ADD/ADHD, Autism and other learning disabilities.

3) Each attendee will learn about the specific benefits to the teachers and students who had access to the Hearit amplification equipment in the Flagstaff Unified School District.
